Scarsdale Conservation Advisory Council

Who Are We?

The Scarsdale Conservation Advisory Council (CAC) is an advisory body to the Village Board of Trustees on matters affecting the natural and built environment of the Village. The Council studies issues affecting the environment such as open space, wetlands or the use of chemicals on lawns and in parks and conveys its views, ideas or recommendations to the Trustees.

When Do We Meet?

The Council meets once a month, generally on the third Thursday of the month, at 7:30 p.m. in a meeting room at Village Hall. The meetings are open to the public and anyone is welcome to attend with the understanding that guests can speak only when invited to do so.

Who Serves on the Council?

As with all Village Board or Councils, the nine Council members are volunteers appointed by the Village Board of Trustees.  The members serve for 2-year open-ended terms. They are:

Bart Hamlin, Chair
Lynne Clark
Lena Crandall
Carl Finger
Jeannie Mackler
Eda Newhouse
Cynthia Roberts
David Silberstein
Terry Singer
Kay Eisenman (Village Board Liaison)

What Has the Council Done Recently?

The Council recently completed a long-term project to create an open space map of the Village and to write a report with recommendations about the preservation and use of open space in the Village of Scarsdale. The Council is also interested in educating citizens about the dangers of using too many chemicals on lawns, parks and fields in the Village, and has disseminated material on this subject to the public.
