The Village of Scarsdale Sanitation Department is responsible for the removal of the following wastes from residential locations:

110 Secor Road - Open Monday through Saturday, 8AM to 3PM. Saturdays are for residents only.

Please refer to the sanitation manual below for the detailed schedule, preparation and placement of the different forms of waste.
No material shall be placed at the street for collection prior to the day preceding the scheduled collection except yard organics.
- Municipal Waste
- Schedule
Garbage shall be removed twice a week from residences, on Monday and Thursday, or Tuesday and Friday.
- Preparation
Municipally collected solid waste shall be placed in watertight metal or plastic containers, having a capacity not to exceed 30 gallons (weighing no more than 50 lbs.), with tight fitting metal or plastic covers. Hole pails and in-ground receptacles are NOT permitted.
- Placement
Solid waste garbage shall be kept in a single location at the residence or in a garage (doors in an open or up position).
- Recycling
Paper
Paper includes: Newspapers, glossy inserts, catalogs, magazines, office paper, brown paper bags, phone books, soft covered books, gray cardboard (used for cereal, pizza, paper towels and tissues) and corrugated cardboard boxes. Excluded are waxed cardboard.
- Schedule
Newspapers, other papers and boxes shall be removed every other week on Wednesday on the same day as the commingled recyclables, except holiday weeks.
- Preparation
Newsprint shall be compactly and securely tied with rope or cord in bundles, or placed in paper bags or boxes. Boxes must be flattened and tied with string. Newspapers MUST not be placed for collection in plastic bags, garbage bags, or garbage cans.
- Placement
Newspapers shall be placed at the curb in front of the house for collection.
Commingled Glass, Bottles, & Plastics
Commingled Recycling includes: green, brown or clear glass bottles, food, juice, soda cans and aluminum cans and foil. Plastics included are containers from food, drink, cleaning supplies CODED 1 or 2 on the bottom.
- Schedule
All commingled recycling - Glass Bottles, Plastics and Metals, shall be picked up every other week on Wednesday on the same day as newspapers, except holiday weeks.
- Preparation
All glass, plastic and cans shall be cleaned of contents with caps removed and placed in a container marked with a Commingled Recycling Sticker provided by the Village of Scarsdale. Plastic bottles MUST not be placed in plastic bags for recycling pickup, but placed loosely in the container.
- Placement
Commingled recycling shall be placed at the same location as your regular garbage.
- Bulky Trash
Bulky trash includes but is not limited to: beds, mattresses, chairs, tables, wood, not to include construction or demolition debris), windows, linoleum, hard-covered books, and other large items not otherwise defined. Bulky Metals include: stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers, dryers, washing machines, air-conditioning units, boilers, freezers, water tanks, lawn mowers and other large metal appliances. All bulky trash MUST come from residential homes. Any item with a plug is not considered bulky trash and must be brought directly to Sanitation Yard - 110 Secor Road and placed in the E-waste container.
- Schedule
Bulky trash will be picked up once a week, for those on the Monday/Thursday garbage schedule on Thursday, for those on the Tuesday/Friday garbage schedule on Friday. There is no bulky trash pickup on holiday weeks.
- Preparation/Location
Placement of bulky trash for collection shall be at the curb, readily accessible to a Village refuse collection truck.
- Yard Waste
Yard Waste includes: grass clippings, leaves, branches and other like organic garden materials. Excluded are tree trunks, soil/dirt, root systems, tree stumps, logs, main branches and other large growing vegetation. These excluded items may be brought directly by a resident for a fee ($125.00/ton with first 200 lbs free for residents only) to the Recycling Center located at 110 Secor Road.
- Schedule
Yard waste shall be collected one day per week, except holiday weeks.
- Preparation
Yard waste shall be separated from other municipally collected solid waste. Leaves, grass clippings and other mulch-like organic materials shall be placed only in biodegradable paper bags for collection.
Branches not exceeding three inches in diameter shall be securely tied in bundles no longer than five (5) feet in length, 18 inches in diameter and not exceeding 50 pounds in weight for collection with yard waste.
- Placement
Yard waste shall be placed at the curb.
- Electronic Waste
Cathode Ray Tubes (CRTs) - All televisions, compute monitors and other electronic equipment utilizing CRTs will not be collected and must be brought to the Recycling Center located at 110 Secor Road for proper disposal. All other computer related items (mouse, keyboard, printers, as well as any other electronic household good with a plug) may be brought directly to the Recycling Center and disposed of in the appropriate marked container.
Limitations/Restrictions
No material shall be placed at the curb for collection prior to the day preceding the scheduled collection EXCEPT yard waste.
The Sanitation Division of the Department of Public Works shall not pick up from any one dwelling unit during any collection more than:
1.Three thirty-gallon containers.
2. Four bundles of branches.
***There will be no collection from residences where snow and ice have not been cleared from access pathways or driveways or in locations that are obstructed by locked gates or garage doors, pets, private vehicles or other such obstructions.
The Sanitation Division shall not collect from the curb, but will accept the following material at the Recycling Center for a fee: tree stumps; tree trunks; firewood; sawdust; railroad ties; limited construction and demolition debris, such as lumber, concrete, plaster, dirt, rock, brick, asphalt, tar paper roofing material or large wooden crates or boxes; stones; sod; car or small vehicle rimless rubber tires; household rechargeable batteries, non-flammable water based paint that is dried; cathode ray tubes (e.g. television and computer monitors) and most other household electrical items considered a bulky metal (large metal fixtures and appliances) that cannot be collected by a Village refuse vehicle.
The Sanitation Division shall not collect from the curb nor accept at the Recycling Center the following materials: paint thinners; explosives; ammunition; motor oil; oil drums; cans or barrels containing combustible, corrosive or flammable liquids or chemicals; pesticides nor herbicides; large truck tires and other rubber based products; vehicle batteries; medical waste; or any hazardous waste.
Normal collection procedures may be changed if they conflict with scheduled holidays. Such changes will be published in the official newspaper of the Village, currently the Scarsdale Inquirer and the public access channels.
