State and local laws provide for the partial exemption of real estate taxes in certain categories to qualifying individuals only. The Assessor's Office has created a brief Property Tax Exemption Presentation currently available to qualifying village residents. Please note: The filing period for all exemption applications in any year is always January 2 through May 1.

Important Changes to the BASIC STAR Exemption

 As of April 2, 2016, all new BASIC STAR exemptions will be administered on the state level by the ORPTS, Department of Taxation and Finance (DTF).  All new BASIC STAR exemption applications shall be completed and submitted electronically via the ORPTS website.  All BASIC STAR exemption applicants that filed after September 15, 2015 will receive a credit in the form of a check mailed directly from the DTF. All existing (those on the books prior to September 15, 2015) BASIC STAR exemption recipients will continue to receive the BASIC STAR exemption benefit as a credit on September 1 school tax bills.
